Couture: Bar Method Style

Even though I love the fun of dressing up for a night out with Ryan or my girlfriends, or putting together an outfit for work, I feel the most myself when I'm in my workout wear. As a society, we have come a long way in embracing the ahtleisure style. Even in during the month I spent in fashion forward New York two years ago, women on the Upper Eastside brunched, lunched, and ran errands in their LuLu's. Most weekends, if you spot me at a coffee shop grading papers or catching up with a girlfriend on a Saturday or Sunday before noon, chances are I'm make-up free, with my hair in a high ponytail, sporting my Bar Method uniform. I don't know if it's the high I get from the super hard classes, or the freedom I feel from wearing clothes that actually move with me, but I love running around town in my Wunder Unders. Ryan often tells me that's when I look my best. Now, that's love.

Here's my Bar Method, Weekend Warrior, Workout Queen Uniform:

  • Pants: Wunder Under 7/8 or Hightimes 7/8 tights, Lululemon. If you are under 5'4", like me, you'll love the 7/8 length at Lululemon. These pants hit right at my anklebone, longer than they're made to wear, but the perfect oh-so-flattering length for my petite height. Even though Lululemon offers free hemming, I find the 7/8 pants are the perfect full length pant for me.
  • Tanks: Power Pose or Power Y, Lululemon. The Power Y has been my longtime favorite top. It has just the right level of support for the smaller-chested woman, and it comes in so many fun colors. The Power Pose is a newer top, which I believe was originally intended to replace the Power Y. But, fortunately (for now anyway), both tops are still being produced. The Power Pose has skinnier straps, is a teeny bit looser in the body, and shows a little more cleavage than the Power Y. Otherwise, they are hard to tell apart.
  • Jackets: Define, Lululemon. The Define Jacket is a Lululemon standard. It the the perfect weight for running around before and after a workout in the spring, summer, and fall, but it also makes a great layering piece for under a down coat, puffer vest, or rain slicker in cooler weather.
  • Socks: Grip Socks, The Bar Method. These socks have become my preferred "around the house" footwear. I now own a basket-full. I know, I know. But, they are warm and cozy, they never stretch out, and they hold their color through many, many laundry loads. In fact, the grippy pads on the bottom add an extra layer of warmth. I wore them with ankle booties through much of our trip to Europe.
