This weekend marked my school’s 50th Anniversary. In honor of this semicentennial, the school hosted a swanky gala at MOHAI in Seattle. The event was fun, but really, it was just an excuse to get all dressed up and have a date night with Ryan. How often do you have such a good reason to buy a cocktail dress? For this occasion, I chose a fit and flare dress with extra flare in the way of tiered layers of lace ruffles. I love how the lace accents the V-neck to form an almost-sweetheart neckline. The nude liner was complimentary to my pale Seattle skin tone so that the focus was on the lace, not the underlying slip. I think that's the key with lace dresses--the underlying layer needs to be as close to your skin tone as possible--otherwise, it just looks off. I accessorized the lace dress with my well-loved 10-year-old nude pointy toe patent pumps, a gold chain link Tory Burch clutch, and creamy pearl earrings. But, by far my best accessory was my handsome husband who was the perfect date. Even though the event was beautiful, and it was fun to be all dressed up and out on the town on a Saturday night, my favorite moment was sitting at our kitchen counter at midnight, heels kicked off, sharing a late night meal with Ryan and laughing over memories from the evening. Even though it was a 50 year anniversary for my school, it made me think about our 50th wedding anniversary. And when that day comes, I hope that we're doing just that--sitting in our kitchen, heels kicked off, and holding hands while sharing a fork and a smile. So, here's to 40 more years of memories like Saturday night spent laughing to tears with my husband and best friend.
