Goethestrasse is Frankfurt’s Rodeo Drive, a premier place
for high-end shopping. Brand-name boutiques located west of the Zeil promenade
carry current collections of international designers such as Versace, Gucci, Chanel,
and Louis Vuitton. Nicknamed Luxusgasse (“luxury lane”) by locals, this tree-lined
street was built in the late 1800s. Since then, it has survived more than a
century of German history (and war) and is now home to a mix of classical,
modernist, and contemporary buildings that host some of the world’s biggest most
coveted labels. 290 meters of temptation and crossing several city blocks in
downtown Frankfurt, I followed the red and green brick road to my favorite
house of fashion – Gucci.
