Couture: Make Up Lesson on Mascara

Let’s face it ladies, lashes are having a moment. Lash extension boutiques are popping up left and right, and every beauty counter has added false lashes to their offerings. I was fairly blessed in the lash department (thanks, Momma!), but my lashes tend to be blonde at the tips and not as thick as I’d like them to be. Enter my favorite beauty product of all time: Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Spectacular Volume & Curl Mascara. This is the lesser-known cousin of the popular Diorshow Lash-Extension Effect Volume Mascara. The difference is the curved brush head that allows for maximum curl.

The history behind Dior's Diorshow mascara line dates back to 2002, when make-up artist Pat McGrath used a toothbrush on models’ lashes backstage at Dior's fashion show. The toothbrush's bristles allowed McGrath to remove the clumps from the lashes while building enough volume to create a false lash effect. And boom...the Diorshow mascara line was born.

Though the original is a global bestseller, I prefer the Iconic Overcurl. The wand, shaped like a banana or a lazy C, can be used to manually curl your lashes while you apply the volume and length building mascara.

The black is such a deep onyx that you don't have to apply more than 1 or 2 coats. If I could only pick two beauty products to take to a deserted island, I would choose this mascara and Sun Bum SPF chapstick. I might not survive, but I would have fantastic lashes.

Here’s how to apply:
Start with the C facing down. Place the upside down C at the base of your upper lashes, curved side up.

Then, as you swipe outward toward the end of your eyelashes, rotate your hand outward so the C moves from curved side up to curved side down, shifting the C so you end with the wand looking like a U with the curved side down.
