Carrots: Top Notch Service at Tavolata

On a recent Tuesday night, my husband and I found ourselves on Capitol Hill. That’s right! We were out on a weeknight. With all the hipsters and millennials.

Eager for the excuse to try Ethan Stowell’s Tavolata, we popped into the bar for happy hour before catching a show at Neumos. I know. Happy hour AND a concert on a weeknight. It’s like we went back in time to our twenties.

Tavolata is such a find. We happened to be there on a gorgeous evening, so the doors were open and the sunshine and fresh air came pouring in. The counter seats we chose at the bar faced outward, so we could people watch. Because people watching on Capitol Hill might be more exciting than people watching anywhere else in Seattle.

We each enjoyed a lovely drink. I had their delightfully dry, house-made rosé, a special rosé that was made specifically for Ethan Stowell restaurants, while Ryan had the Contessa, a lovely and refreshing cocktail with Aperol. We shared the baguette, the beet salad, and the chickpea salad, and then Ryan had the spicy sausage rigatoni. Every dish was flavorful and made with simple ingredients, but done perfectly.

Aside from the meal, one of the best parts about our dinner at Tavolata was the service. The wait staff was hopping. Every time I looked up, they were moving. When I complimented our server on the exceptional service, her comment was “we work as a team,” and you could definitely feel it. They whisked empty plates away and refilled water glasses without us noticing, top notch service for happy hour prices.

This might just be our new pre-show happy hour spot for our dates at Neumos. I already look forward to our next great meal at Tavolata
