Couture: Glitter and Gold, Holiday Style Tips and Trends

One of my favorite perks of being a Nordstrom cardholder is the chance to participate in one of their tips and trends workshops. These workshops are free of charge and take a mere half hour of your time. I have attended a couple and I always walk away with at least one new styling tip, and several items on my wish list for that season. It is a fun way to spend time with a friend (thanks for being my +1, Kendra!), but many folks opt to go solo.

The most recent session was on holiday attire and accessories, and absolutely no glitz was spared. We met at Department Bento, the Tom Douglas eatery within Nordstrom Bellevue. A long table was set up with several stations, each complete with a pen to take notes, a personal styling inventory worksheet, mini bottles of Pellegrino, and some yummy rice balls from the restaurant. Our style expert, Alyssa, warmly greeted each of us and collected information about our personal style preferences with an "exit ticket" that we handed her at the end of the session. The theme of the workshop was definitely all out glam. Though several of the pieces could be styled for everyday, the vibe was more New Year's Eve than weekday work wear. But this girl loves her glam. The glitterier, the better. I like shiny things.

Some of my favorite pieces were the adorable Alice and Olivia fit and flare dress, a slinky Dress the Population fringe frock, and an emerald green jumpsuit by Adelyn Rae. I also fell in love with a grey wrap coat by Badgley Mischka and some super cute OTK tights by Pretty Polly. The big takeaway was pairing festive dresses with glittery jewelry, layering sparkle atop sparkle in a more is more kind of way. So grab your bff, hit up your local Nordstrom, and follow the trail of sparkle to find your perfect holiday look.

Dress the Population Layered Fringe Dress. This piece is amazing in person. It catches the light and has warm grey, brown, and red tones. It's layered, but it's sheer from about the knee down. It has so much movement. It's the perfect accompaniement to your favorite dance song and super hot date at a NYE ball.

Alice and Olivia Black and Gold Fit and Flare Dress. This is the dress you'll buy this holiday season and wear it for the next ten years. The flattering fit and flare silhouette is timeless and it will become a staple in your closet for years to come. Pair it with opaque black tights and some shiny gold heels and you're good to go for any holiday event.

Adelyn Rae Velvet Jumpsuit. This is a piece that surprised me. A velvet jumpsuit, especially a wide-leg one, is not my usual style. But it is super flattering on and the deep emerald green is absolutely gorgeous in person. It is rich in tone and super luxe. And, it's a great price point to boot!

Badgley Mischka Wool Wrap Coat. This wrap coat is gorgeous and I love it in all three colors. The gray was featured at the workshop, but the lavender and black are also beautiful. It is the perfect top layer for any evening look. The gray would be a staple you could keep in your wardrobe for years. It would look fabulous over a cocktail dress, but it would also elevate your everday jeans and sweater look as well. And act fast... it's on sale!

Pretty Polly Over the Knee Tights. I love opaque tights. Not only are they super flattering, but they are also an extra layer of warmth when you're sporting a dress during the winter. And if you're like me and you live in Seattle, you have pale legs from October to May. I love how these tights have a layered look as if you're also wearing an OTK pair of socks on top. But, they're all one piece. I can see wearing these with a sweater dress and ankle boots.
