Couture: Kendall Yards and Boutique Bleu

For our past few visits to Spokane, we have enjoyed spending time at Kendall Yards, a planned community just across the Centennial Bridge across from downtown Spokane. It feels like a single street version of Seattle's University Village. The road allows cars, but is easily walkable with wide walkways on either side of the street. There is even a running and walking trail on the cliff side of the street, overlooking the river gorge. The street is dotted with a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, wineries, art galleries, and other businesses. We love the organic, local, and in-season dishes at Central Foods, which is also super vegan friendly, and the family-friendly vibe and not-to-be-missed focaccia at Veraci Pizza. One of our favorite summer stops is the Brain Freeze Creamery, which always has a vegan flavor or two on rotation, and Indaba Coffee Roasters makes a wonderful latte with their house made almond milk. But, my favorite part about Kendall Yards is the shopping.

Boutique Bleu is located on the east end of the Kendall Yards strip, with the bright storefront window facing downtown Spokane. On a nice day, you could pass a pleasant hour sitting on the adorable polka dot bench outside Boutique Bleu's door, perhaps trying to stay ahead of the melting ice cream atop a cone from Brain Freeze.

When you enter Boutique Bleu, you will be warmly greeted. I found the staff to be pleasant and friendly, but not at all pushy. They gave us the space to wander through the racks of clothing, which mainly consisted of lighter colored winter wear for that shoulder season of not-quite-Spring that hits Spokane. They had some lovely sweaters in light pinks, grays, and ivories. But, just like the much anticipated first crop of crocuses that find their way through the snow, Boutique Bleu also had a number of spring and almost summer items out, including some shorts and sundresses that would be ideal for a winter getaway. I wound up finding the perfect gift for someone else and the perfect gift for myself, a light gray sweater that had a peek-a-boo white blouse on the back, giving the illusion of a layered look, without the bulk. The prices were incredibly reasonable as well.

If you're looking for some fun stackable bracelets, a rosé scented candle, a pair of cargo jeans, or some nubuck mules, Boutique Bleu is the spot to peruse in Kendall Yards, perhaps with an almond milk latte in hand!
