Carrots: Best Brunch in Bellingham

You haven't had a great Bellingham brunch until you've visited Old Town Cafe. This diner style spot is quaint and eclectic, boasting old school wooden booths and servingbrunch favorites like eggs benny, but it also has a colorful streak thanks to the local rotating artwork adorning the walls and the vegan-friendly tofu scambles on the menu. The cafe is a microcosm for Bellingham more generally in that it is equal parts granola and edgy.

The cafe itself is a lovely space. Located on the corner of an old building in downtown Bellingham, light streams in through the windows on sunny weekends. They don't take reservations and Old Town Cafe is a popular place, so expect to wait a bit for a table. But, there's a lovely bench outside spanning the length of the cafe that makes the waiting more fun, supplemented by the amazing people watching of constant passersby.

You can't go wrong with any dish on the menu, though my favorites are any one of the tofu scrambles and the garden salad with tofu and dijon vinaigrette. Whatever you order, make sure you ask for extra homefries. These crispy season potatoes are not to be missed. And you'll find yourself polishing them off long after you're full!

The service is friendly and efficient. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and seem to genuinely enjoy the cameraderie of the cafe, tending to visitors like locals.

And you can feel as good paying your bill as you do polishing off that extra forkfull of homefries. Owner Diane Brainard gives back to as many local farms and vendors as possible, even offering a free annual Thanksgiving community meal.
