Carrots: Take Out Date Night to Keep Local Businesses Alive

About once a week, you will likely find us tucked into a corner table or huddled together on a cozy set of bar stools in Deru Market, our favorite local eatery. Little Brother, of the same owners, is the fancier version of the two and our pick for celebratory meals - birthdays, anniversaries, and special date nights. Thanks to the group of incredibly warm and hospitable servers, both restaurants feature top-notch service and an inviting ambiance. There's a reason you feel like family as you're ushered to your seat - they are great at recalling details such as the fact that my husband always asks for the fries (the best. period.) and that I will inevitably order a Farm Salad, hold the cheese and pepitas.

Both Deru and Little Brother focus on local, seasonal ingredients. The food is elevated but not fussy. Elegant but not stuffy. It's the kind of food you could eat day in and day out, without ever feeling bad about what you ate. If you haven't yet realized my love for this food, check out this post and this post

Deru offers two menu formats - order from their regular menu, 7 days a week, or order from their Dinner Club, which requires ordering a few days in advance but which rotates weekly offering a number of premade reheatable items to make quarantine date night effortless.

Restaurants like Little Brother and Deru are the kind of local businesses we need to keep open during this time of uncertainty. As both have been forced to close their doors due to the Stay Home, Stay Healthy measure in Washington, they have upped their game for takeaway, enabling you to order ahead either online or via phone, and your meal will be ready and waiting, delivered right to your car with carefully gloved hands.

This weekend, we ordered Deru to go for an at home date night. Light some candles. Pour some wine. And you have all the makings for a date, save the actual going out part. And the best part is, we were able to order enough for leftovers the next day. Deru and Little Brother, we love you and we will keep up the takeaway orders until we can dine in again!
