Carrots and Couture: An Afternoon in Punta Mita

Punta Mita is this adorable little two street town on the penninsula of Punta Mita in Nayarit, Mexico. Though we spent most of our week basking in the sunshine while poolside (and while holding glasses of adult beverages), one somewhat cloudy afternoon we decided to head into the "town" for a change of pace.

The two quaint streets run in a perpendicular L to each other, with the one closest to the water housing mostly beachside restaurants and the one running toward the water holding a delightful mix of art galleries, jewelers, clothiers, and surf shops.

Our favorite find was a restaurant called Los Agaves, a cantina with an open-walled, covered rooftop deck. We loved the extensive wine, beer, and tequila menu (for 1/3 the price of what we were paying on the resort), and the tableside guacamole is not to be missed. In fact, stay tuned as I will try to copycat that guac recipe later this spring!

After we were sufficiently buzzed, we happened to find a sweet little shop a couple of doors down called Morgana. Part art gallery, part clothing store, and part jeweler, this spot had something for everyone, and all the pieces were made by local artisans. I wound up finding a flat beaded gold bracelet that gave just the right metallic accent against my sunkissed skin. The best part of our stop in Morgana was definitely the mariachi band playing outside.

Though Punta Mita doesn't boast a lot of options, it was a great way to kill a few hours in our afternoon and a nice break from the week at the resort (which you can read all about here). It was one of the best memories from our week and we are still craving that guacamole!!!
